NHS England's regional medical director for London, Dr Vin Diwakar, says hospitals in the capital are currently caring for nearly '8,000' COVID19 patients, nearly double the amount from Christmas Day. Live updates here:

The images, from this morning's meeting in which the vaccine rollout and pressure on the NHS were discussed, were posted to the Number 10 Flickr account.Waitrose has joined Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Asda and Tesco by not allowing customers into its stores unless they are wearing a face covering, or have a medical exemption.

Meanwhile at John Lewis, click and collect services at its stores have been temporarily stopped, in an effort to limit the reasons for non-essential travel during the lockdown.SAGE adviser wants lockdown rules to get tougher Prof Michie also said that currently,"it's going to take a lot longer to get out of the pandemic, there'll be many avoidable deaths and it will hit the economy harder".The Guardian is reporting this could happen after a 74-fold increase in patients over the last few weeks.

Local Fine Gael councillor Gerry Coyle described Mrs McAndrew as:"An absolute lady. A friend to everyone." In the week of 28 December to 3 January, some 2,614 patients waited longer than 12 hours to be given a bed at 32 NHS trusts and boards across the country, according to figures gathered by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine .The target time for emergency departments to admit, transfer or discharge patients in four hours.

The prime minister's official spokesman told a Westminster briefing earlier:"We're aware of those images circulating on social media, and it is clear that the contents of those food parcels are completely unacceptable. The meeting was held by conference call earlier and ministers were briefed on the rollout of the vaccination programme by NHS England chief executive Sir Simon Stevens and Brigadier Phil Prosser, the head of military support to the programme.

Sainsbury's and Morrisons have already said they will be enforcing mask-wearing in their stores, with the former sending out an email to customers warning them about the change. There seems to be some confusion as to how far people are allowed to travel for exercise, with some arguing advice to"stay local" is not clear enough - you can read more on this in the post below.

Can we quit playing God and allow nature to take its course. Close Abortion clinics and open economy. Here is God’s relief to over population. No need for man to control it for the child in the womb may very well have the answers to your prayers.

If virus would be deadly I believe people will do what is necessary and wouldn't need constant reminders(read:treats)...This is not about virus....

Straight out of the divide and conquer manifesto. Identify, blame, ostracize.

Just get on with it. Until you start enforcing it knobs will continually break the rules.

I will never understand how the likes of pritipatel can stand there and spout nonsense. She knows this is nonsense. Is the money she earns really worth destroying Britain for? I will never understand these people. They will have to live with what they have done. It's bizarre

2+2=5

Thank you lumpy Patel stop the boats not difficult, or do you wish us to defend our borders? Can do not a problem , will use a harpoon but watch out for your behind!

Well said Priti Patel! The government should take every action, and I entice you to do so, including a violent force towards disobedience and calls for dangerous freedoms. Stay home, obey and save the NHS.

Animal of a bully shows now

Everyone is breaking the rules. Especially the tories. Fuck listening to this bully.

Selfless !! 😂😂😂😂they’ve been put on report in manchester they’re that bad !

So are we talking statute law here or merely soundbites for something that is already acknowledged as impractical and unenforceable?

That minority 'putting the health of the nation at risk' is the Tory Govt.,

How many workplace assessments have the HSE done? Catastrophic Tory incompetence.

Shouldn't she be talking about the immigrants and what they spread

No .. a majority Tory government is 'putting the health of the nation at risk' ... there fixed it for you.

Tryna bully everyone now told Patel fuck off

Boris and Hancock didn't want Covid to rip through communities. Well they are either doing a really bad job unless they have U-turned (once again!) and herd immunity was actually always the plan!

Stop the protests in the Capital would be good. Shame the water cannons got scrapped.

“Selfless Police?”.. I think she means power tripping narcissists.

I look forward to taking on the metpoliceuk

can someone please point out that the dress on the NHS is due to behaviour that was happening 2/3 weeks ago. There’s a lag on hospital admissions. The few ppl who have had the most detrimental effect were theCabinet & Johnson deciding to let ppl mix over xmas

Well said Priti Patel

Pritti Patel is like a red rag to a bull. If anyone was thinking of breaking the rules they will now.

PlantJacqueline Is it not scary that allegedly 90% of population are adhering to the Rules, 10% not. With the number of deaths and cases caused by 10% what on earth would figures be if more broke the Rules

Remember who pays your wages. A vast majority are doing their bit stop treating us like idiots and get on with what we pay you for.

'A minority of people are putting the health of the nation at risk' completely agree. 'The vast majority of the current government are putting the health of the nation at risk with its handling of the pandemic '
