Mother couldn't see son for first eight-weeks of his life after falling ill with Covid-19 while pregnant

Before going into hospital, Mandy Nguyen was a healthy 31-year-old with no underlying health conditions

On her 32nd birthday, Ms Nguyen's doctors and nurses gathered around her intensive care unit bed to sing her happy birthday.Doctors had told her family to prepare for the worst, because coronavirus had ravaged her lungs to the point she could no longer properly oxygenate her blood. "The doctors told me they couldn't give me the correct medications with a baby in me," Ms Nguyen said. She was taken to St Bartholomew's Hospital in central London, where she was attached to a rare form of life support - an Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Machine.

Thank God for a happy ending ♥️

Ffs how many ways can you spin this story? It's getting boring now.

You all look happy, best wishes

Just stop it, BBC. This happens to thousands of women every year, albeit not due to covid. Indeed I had a similar horrific experience after my first baby, several years ago. This is just another example of your incessant fear-mongering over covid.

Good this mother has recovered and can now see her son. So sad for her to be missing that first bond with him.

Please, wear masks!

What a brave, wonderful lady and huge thanks to all the NHS staff who helped her through

So pleased it all worked out.

This has convinced me to never go out, that's me done. Bring on the delivery drones
