English secondary schools to provide weekly Covid tests for pupils

In a statement announcing the measures, Health Secretary Sajid Javid said "regular testing is a key way to support schools and protect face-to-face teaching".

In a bid to combat a potential surge of illness, ministers have urged pupils to come forward for a Covid vaccine.in a Twitter threadHe said education is the "number one priority" for the government and he wanted to "offer some reassurance".As well as testing, Mr Zahawi promised "a further 7,000 air-cleaning units will be provided, building on the 1,000 already announced and the 350,000 CO2 monitors distributed to classrooms across the country".

But Labour's shadow education secretary, Bridget Phillipson, criticised ministers for the slow rollout of jabs to schoolchildren. "The widespread use of testing is an illustration that the British public are taking sensible steps to keep themselves safe to keep their friends and family safe," Mr Barclay said.

Whats the break down rate, of these test materials? Are you creating, globally a massive amount of waste, that no one is accounting for. Yes, a deadly virus is dangerous, but medically associated waste is one of the top, worst in reconsuambles.

That explains scarcity of the LFT test kits then, they're all being shipped into schools..NeverTrustATory

And then what will be happened if a pupils test positive of covid? Shutdown the entire school or seft-lockdown mandate?

How is this even a story, secondary schools have been doing this since they went back feb 21

More pressure on teachers with little notice. My daughter goes back tomorrow. She has worked and supported her pupils throughout all lockdowns. No media support, no clapping for them.

There weak no mask in towns city's after school needs street law mask on in streets

Laughable

Will yhat be a separate lesson and will there be an A level test after. Really time to put the big boy pants on and get on with life, the teachers have had enough extra holidays over the last 2 years anymore and they will need retraining

Blimey its like a return to the nit nurse! Or giving sugar lumps out to ward off polio

Your BBCBreakfast headline on testing says all students will be tested before returning to school. They won’t - not all parents (or 16s) will consent to this. All will be ASKED to, but not all will be tested.

Insist on how the tests can differentiate between covid-19 and a common cold.

Testing is only valid *ON THAT DAY* and at that moment. Testing twice a week is utter nonsense and completely pointless, and yet even you at the BBC who should know better fail to point out the absurdity of testing kids only twice a week.

No kidding!!! Couldn't find an LFT anywhere a few days ago and now All Secondary Schools will have loads of test kits in a couple of days time.? Oh Yeah.? I hope so.

CLICK BAIT

England testing pupils once a week. Scotland and N Ireland testing pupils twice a week. Wales testing pupils three times a week. Again the English are suffering from the consequences of voting Tory.

Weekly?

What a waste of time, on the way home it will be masks off and time to snog each other, or don’t teenagers do that these days?

Unauthorized protestors torn apart by police dogs and beaten with batons in Amsterdam, Holland. If it was in India, it would have been front page news all over the world, with local puppets joining their Western and Chinese masters to complain about human rights abuses.

This headline does not match the story. Testing before returning was announced before the end of the last term. Kids in England are already asked to test twice a week. This is collected by LAs as well as the govt.

People not reading the article 🙄. They are being tested at least once before they return to school. It has been like that at the start of every term since schools reopened fully.

Once a week! FFS!🤦‍♂️

Bring back the nit nurse as well

They can provide them but the majority of students still won’t do them. Why would students bother testing? If they are positive they miss out on school and most teachers won’t send you the work and then they don’t get to see their friends for a week.

ROYAL ENGLAND CUTE PEOPLE'S SWEET DREAMS

Is that instead of the twice a week tests they are doing now?

The hand wringing knows no bounds. With the vast majority of the population vaxxed and milder variants dominating covid needs to be treated like the flu or a cold. Stay home if you’re sick. That is all.

I'd love that.

Tougher Covid measures for new school term as Government set to review Plan BMinisters say there is nothing in the data to suggest further restrictions will be needed imminently. How is Boris ever going to deal with a pandemic? He can't even get a brush through his hair! For me alone is not lonely, So high schools have to wear masks and do some lateral flows. That’s not that tough, and won’t last all that long as it reverts to ‘test at home’. Primaries have NOTHING. Please do your journalistic duty and report this properly!
