Nurseries, pre-schools and childminders call for rapid testing and priority access to vaccines

A Department for Education spokesman said: "Keeping nurseries and childminders open will support parents and deliver the crucial care and education for our youngest children.

Dr Amelia Massoura, who runs Stepping Stone pre-school, in Sittingbourne, Kent, said: "Out of six members of staff, four have contracted Covid-19.Vanessa Linehan, manager of Sandbrook Community Playgroup in Hackney in London, said: "We are happy to stay open to support our families."We encourage local authorities to prioritise appropriate testing for early-years staff through their community testing programmes," said the Department for Education spokesman.

She questioned why "the government has refused to publish the scientific basis for keeping early-years settings open in lockdown" and called on it to "urgently pull back from the brink of funding changes that could lead to viable early-years providers going bust".The government changed the funding formula for the early years sector in December, basing it on current attendance rather than pre-pandemic levels.

In primary and secondary schools, which are open to vulnerable children and children of key workers only,Roughly half of nurseries and pre-schools and a third of childminders expect to be operating at a loss by the end of the spring term, based on current levels of government support, according to the survey.

Personally I dont see a problem with teachers, nursery workers, police, ambulance men/women or firefighters getting the vaccine first. I am 64 and not at work and don't have to meet other people like so many of my age& Yes I do have a health problem but I'm thinking of others

No over 80+ and vulnerable FIRST

The government have already said you still have to stick to the rules even with the vaccine, so what is the point exactly ?

Vaccines are the only options for key workers, not rapid testing with more than 50% fake negatives.

Everyone wants priority access, wait their turn like everyone else

Everybody thinks they are priority have they forgotten who are the ones at high risk of death if they get covid certainly not a healthy adult.

Seems everyone thinks there more important than the next guy
