An 'unprecedented' number of children are chronically absent from school in Northern Ireland, missing more than 10% of the year.

The impact of the Covid pandemic has resulted in "unprecedented" numbers of children chronically absent from school, the Department of Education has said.Chronic absence is classed as missing more than 10% of the year.some pupils never fully returned to school after lockdownsAn investigation by Dame Rachel de Souza suggested persistent absence from school was at a rate in England almost twice as high as before the pandemic.

All thanks to MMcIlveenDUP not putting hepa filters in schools. Some Teachers and pupils were on their 3rd covid infection by June and will continue this year. negligence resign willbeheldaccountable

And yet there are no Covid mitigations in schools. Windows opened years ago, what protections do pupils have now? Hand sanitiser? How will that protect against AIRBORNE transmission? MMcIlveenDUP It certainly hasn’t worked in the past 2 years, has it?

Pupils and teachers will continue to get sicker through repeated Covid infections with refusal of Education_NI MMcIlveenDUP to take action to ensure cleaner air in schools, such as installing HEPA filtration in classrooms.

Definitely more serious cases of absence since the pandemic. A consultant told me there is an uptick in chronic fatigue symptoms, girls in particular. EWS on work to rule and haven’t been able to assign some cases to an EWO. EWS needs more resources and schools need more help

Chronic absence is'classed' as 10 percent or more. Schools clasing of what is deemed an absence is quite varied and needs radically addressed. Chronic also means something that happens more than once. Non story
