New Covid restrictions have come into force in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as the nations try to halt the surge in infections.
Daily coronavirus figures are not being reported over Christmas Day and Boxing Day, but Friday saw a new high of 122,186 UK cases. The UK government is continuing its strategy of encouraging the take-up of booster vaccines to protect against the Omicron variant, sending out millions of text messages on Boxing Day urging people to "get boosted now".
Vaccines and boosters are still essential - they do a great job at protecting against severe disease that could put you in hospital
actually wearing masks, keeping 2 meaters apart should be enough if you want to protect your self use N95 if you want to reuse them then buy 7 number them 1-7 and use a deferent one each day and sanatiz regularly
The booster is not enough. We need a strict hard lockdown in place until 2024 at least. The selfish people who met with friends/family over Xmas are to blame. This virus is a real threat & we need to take action now! lockdownnow

If you get it you have to isolate and you have probably given it to someone else who had plans wrecked . The restrictions allow you to have a reasonable chance of doing something in England it’s a free for all . They should not have large sporting events holidays ruined etc

Not just three of the UK nations, but much of Europe exercising caution. Some on here think it’s ok to experiment with a still largely unknown fast spreading variant. Confidence not borne out by past experience.
If the *vaccine* ... does not stop people catching the virus does not stop people spreading the virus but may reduce your personal symptoms and the need for hospital care ... could the *vaccinated* be; immunity-compromised, symptom-suppressed (asymptomatic!) spreaders?
Be interesting to see if these rules stay in place if there follows a significant difference between England and the rest.
Why doesn't the BBC publish the hospitalisation rate and death rate but instead scare people with the case rate only? I think we know the answer.
It's less likely to cause severe disease so hopefully we won't overreact in England at least. We need to adjust to this new normal and live our lives. If you've chosen not to have your jabs then that's your choice. We can't let covid dictate how we exist forever
We all live on the same small island. How can it be scientifically right to have different covid rules in each corner. The UK government should have taken away any right for devolved govs to use covid to exercise there own silly powers.
While Johnson 'let the bodies pile high' is desperate for the popularity vote instead.
