Fine for group who held barbecue on snow-covered moors

Five people who held a barbecue with their children on the snow-covered County Durham moors have been fined for flouting Covid-19 lockdown rules.

The group of 13, which included eight children, had travelled 20 miles from Gateshead to Waskerley, near Consett, in three vehicles on Thursday.Police added "unnecessary strain" could have been put on emergency services if the group had crashed in poor weather. The adults initially told police they did not believe they had done anything wrong, the force said.

After receiving fixed penalty notices they were sent home with their children, the youngest of whom was aged seven months old.

Who the hell has a barbecue in January

Hold on! What the hell have we come to? A family fined for being together! Dear God! how did we allow normal behaviour to be criminalised? Covid is not the black death, it is a fairly moderate pandemic. Ending lockdown is not enough. Those responsible for this must be locked up

Hardly the crime of the century. Are people not alowed to drive in the snow?

Can I ask a question. What is the difference between parents with kids in supermarket and me taking my 6 year old son(with disabilities) outside the town to a quiet place for example forest ? Because there are families in supermarkets but we cant go 10 miles away ......

Police worried about the snowman
