A council leader has called for 'proper' consultation on the future of an ex RAF base after the Home Office confirmed it won’t be used as a Greek-style asylum seeker processing centre

welcomed the “common sense” decision and there should now be consultation on the future of the 240-hectare site, which could be used for anything from housing or a solar farm.A working group, including Hambleton’s planners, is expected to meet in November to discuss options, with residents, councillors and the MP involved at a later stage in discussions.

The Ministry of Defence began closing the base in 2020, following the transfer of pilot training to RAF Valley on Anglesey, with just a handful of military personnel now remaining on site. He said: “It would be nice to see it back as an RAF base – at the end of the day all the facilities are there. It has a modern control tower, the old one was only replaced around six years ago."When it was an active base it brought growth to the local economy. What happens in future needs proper consultation – the problem was there was no consultation whatever.

Animal Rebellion protestors pour milk across UK shop floors including Harrods calling for a ‘plant-based future'Vegan activists have doused UK supermarket aisles with milk – including Harrods, Fortnum & Mason, and Waitrose, in co-ordinated protests calling for a ‘plant-based future'. Spoilt middle class woke brats. I would have knocked them out if that was my shop. By doing that they take money out of the economy, from the dairy company’s, the retail shop workers and ultimately the farmers when the dairy companies can’t pay the farmers. They should be classed as domestic terrorists each and every one of them.
