General election 2019: Swindon 'can't vote' letter criticised

Swindon Borough Council has asked people to ignore the letter as it was sent"by mistake"

"It's these kind of things that make people nervous or disillusioned about going out to vote, and that's negative for society," she said.By Dan O'Brien, BBC Wiltshire political reporterAbout 3,000 people were sent a letter by mistake suggesting they may not be able to vote, in a town which historically is known to be a close race at election time.

South Swindon was particularly close last time around - in a constituency of 70,000, the Tories won a majority of just 2,400. Recipients were warned that if they did not appeal against the decision within 14 days they would be removed from the electoral register.

bbclaurak Tories gonna Tory

bbclaurak So it’s a mistake that’s all, get over it guys ! If anything we should applaud them for checking that people are genuine voters !

Russian interference

bbclaurak Incompetence.

bbclaurak What is the inference here, how would a council know who people would vote for?

By Dan O'Brien, BBC Wiltshire political reporter 'This is a cock-up rather than a conspiracy' Yes of course, when it's a Tory marginal it's a 'cock-up' It's going to be difficult beating the Tories when they have the full weight of the impartial state broadcaster behind them.

bbclaurak Tory led council cause 'cock up' for voters in Tory marginal 🤔

Off subject. BBC, why no coverage of these bombings in Sweden?
