A council has been blasted for painting over potholes instead of filling them. Kevin Mervin, 57, criticised North Northamptonshire Council over its inaction in Kettering.
He noticed that potholes on Pytchley Road had not been filled - and road markings had just been freshly-painted on top. Kevin, who works in the trucking industry, spotted the lines yesterday. He said "I couldn’t believe it – they just put white paint over the potholes! It’s telling that they don’t care and they’re just going to stay there. It’s annoying but it did tickle me. They cannot be serious - how on earth could the council do this?"
Jason Smithers, leader of North Northamptonshire Council, called the work "unsatisfactory". He said: "This work is not at all acceptable and there’s no way that this should be happening. "We have immediately picked this up with our contractor who will be carrying out work to fill the potholes and repaint the road markings at no additional cost to the taxpayer. We have demanded - and received assurances - that their processes will be reviewed to ensure this shoddy work is not repeated.
