'We sold nearly everything just to pay bills'

While her partner Stewart Hart, 40, works full-time as a gas surveyor for a housing association, the couple do not qualify for universal credit. They do receive a monthly child benefit payment of £87.

Christmas is a huge concern for the family and Ms Callaghan added: "We will try our best to have a proper Christmas dinner, but perhaps we will have to buy a small chicken rather than a turkey.

Can we focus on the UK for a change and not Nigeria?

I guess the BBC was too busy finding someone from the whining diversity, they couldn't find someone actually struggling

People on benefits should be taught how to spend there benefits wisely.

Anyone else sick of these 'case studies' presented by the BBC as though they are representative of wider economic conditions? If you want to make documentaries about poverty in the UK, go ahead. But stop presenting stories like this as 'news'.

Absolute tosh!!

Pathetic! DefundTheBBC

It's hard to believe they are struggling. Both have decent jobs between them they got to be on 50k easily

Yes, when I was very young I remember scraping the ice from the bedroom window

Oh dear...it is well

More propaganda from the BBC - Geobbels would be in awe!

There are a series of articles by the BBC featuring people who don't seem like they have wanted for anything in their entire lives who apparently can't eat or pay for heating. I mean, call me picky but would it be too much to ask to feature someone who was actually poor?

Christ I'm 65 on benefits. Freezers full I smoke I drink, ( more than I need but less than I want ).. learn to budget people

Hear Rwanda is warm?

Change your name to ‘Windsor’. That way, you can dodge a £200 million tax bill. TaxTheWindsors

Something similar to all these stories, dont you think

Government's failure to address income tax unfairness has caused financial issues in thousands of households & dragged many people into debt. The PAYE system is grossly unfair when compared to those who can use accountants to reduce tax. Companies should be paying more, too.

* turn2us * website will calculate the benefit this family receive, it's simple to use and gives people an insight into how much benefit people actually receive v their poverty claims.

She's an HR consultant average salary is £38,000 and she has a partner earning? Is this a joke.

.....did ' wokest ' BBC come to help..? defund BBC ! to save people from not eating & heating !!

Both working & in receipt of Child Allowance. I would say they have chosen to sell toys rather than have to … BBC should round up all those they choose for these stories & take them to a classroom to go through budgetary models

She didn’t sell her makeup.

The slightest thing has a ‘devastating impact on mental health’ these days. It’s time for people to toughen up, sick and tired of hearing about their so called miserable existence .

Old old story, mortgaged to the hilt,2 cars in the drive,no food in the fridge

So that's £40. no try getting a job.

You did not have to do that there are programs to help families.

Another incomplete story. Nothing about the couple's income. How were they able to afford all those things that they're selling? They just need financial/budget planning help. The last thing they need is scummedia to help them.

It's so sad to these things are happening day and night and no one seems to care....well am talking from experience 😢

Seriously? No human being wants live in this tough situation. CostOfLivingCrisis UK

She clearly doesn't skip meals.

NO ONE BELIEVES THE BBC. DEFUNDTHEBBC

Yep nothing new it’s called budgeting and living within one’s means! Just our mums and certainly our grandparents did!

If a HR consultant is struggling to find higher paying jobs for herself and her husband, I would question how effective she is at her chosen career

Why is it they always seem to work for either the labour party, a union, or an organisation associated with one of those?

Should have listened at school.

This isn’t true. It’s made up.

Once again, the BBC can't find a struggling white family.

Does it only affect black people?

Get a job!!

Utter garbage 😡

Both work and selling the kids things , How pathetic are the bbc to believe this rubbish

Lol in uk you have %10 inflation and all of you cry like babies. She must come to turkey and see what real economic crisis looks like.

That certainly looks like BBC.

Oh no, best advocate for Universal Basic Income and Digital ID technocracy so we can all become controllable slaves to the globalists
