"If people fail to comply with it, the police can be called in to deal with it," Mr Apter said.
"I would hope what we will see is what we have seen throughout this whole pandemic and that is the vast majority of the public complying."According to the College of Policing, officers will have the power to"use force" to remove customers from shops if they do not wear face coverings, as well as prevent them from entering.
The new law does not apply to staff working in shops and people are not required to wear masks inside pubs, bars or restaurants. In Scotland, it is required by law to wear face coverings in both shops and on public transport.Shop owner Diane Bardon accused the government of"mixed messaging" and said she won't enforce restrictions on customers who refuse to cover up.She told Sky News:"I am not going to call the police on my customers.
Some people are exempt from the rules - children under 11 and those with breathing problems are not required to wear a covering. The government has been accused of being unclear in its own advice over face coverings, leading to confusion as to where people should be wearing them.

A business should have the right to refuse entry, mask up or refuse entry. This is a private entity, enforce your policy of refusal, no need for policing by police.
In UAE we have been doing it for months ! It’s MANDATORY , not a choice. You need strong leadership. Everyone wears a mask here , if not , a big fine. Simple. We are happy that we are being protected so well.
People in other countries wear masks when they step out of their homes. Why is there so much problems in UK?
If all the I know better, I'm owed a living dick heads in this country just wore a mask as recommended this wouldn't be an issue... Or news.
Given you can’t enforce the laws on knife crime or rioting or civil disobedience no surprise really is it
We don’t even bother with shoplifters now so there’s no chance of this being enforced.
Every where Govt. applies a through enforcement
If you don't wear a mask then you can't get in simple as that
I was talking to somebody who works in a shop and they said they don't care they will be too busy working to police it.
Anyone with half a brain knew that from the start. BorisJohnson is expecting the population to police it themselves. Queue absolute divets shouting guff and using using their camera phones in anger.
That's pretty obvious
For months it's been..why don't we wear masks like XYZ. Now we do and the media is obsessed by how we cant enforce it. 🤦♂️
It’s easy. I just avoid shops
It's easy enough to ask someone to wear a mask, I don't see what's so difficult here.
Obvious....that's why pub landlords are legally responsible for enforcing the drinking age limit. Just too many people for police to deal with one on one. It would require a law that makes the shops responsible...as is the case with pub landlords (before anyone gets hysterical)
Shouldn't be up to the police to ensure this happens. Shops should refuse service if you are not wearing one
Most will follow the rules with just a teeny-weeny tiny-winy amount of nutters kicking off !
