The World Health Organization has launched a"technology access pool" to ensure that treatments, vaccines and the technology surrounding them is provided to all who need them - and are not simply bought up by the wealthiest countries.WHO head Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said tools to prevent, detect and treat Covid-19 were"global public goods that must be accessible by all people".
"Science is giving us solutions, but to make the solutions work for everyone, we need solidarity," he said. The initial proposal came from Costa Rica, which suggested a common fund where those who decide to participate - voluntarily - will make available the scientific knowledge, data and intellectual property they develop.
In addition to medicines and vaccines, this includes improved diagnostic tests, medical devices , health protection equipment and any other technology that proves useful in curbing the pandemic. However some of the world’s biggest economies, and major pharmaceutical producing countries - among them the US, UK, China and Switzerland - have not yet given their backing to the scheme, apparently fearful of setting a precedent in relinquishing intellectual property rights to vital medicines they have developed.
faisalislam RishiSunak Please tell Faisal to try living in America , if he feels UK’s amazing financial package isn’t enough. Folk won’t get far there?!?!
faisalislam Utterly ridiculous question. Headline grabbing sound bites. Extremely generous scheme never seen before in UK. Be grateful.
faisalislam Don't support it anymore.
faisalislam As usual lots of momentum on this thread.
faisalislam Why don't people in parliament and the government cut there wages down cos they get paid a shit tone, if they did that then it could help businesses. But nope, they r not gonna do that. tomanylifesatrisk
faisalislam Well done for asking a relevant question you should replace bbclaurak immediately!!!!!
faisalislam You could save that by sacking the white elephant that is HS2...
faisalislam I'm fortunate to have a job that still pays me my full wage and whilst I sympathise with those currently furloughed the country can't continue to pay it forever. Many of the businesses would have failed anyway given their high level of debt
faisalislam 42 seconds to ask a question.
faisalislam They had trillions for the banks and they prospered so dont patronize us. We haven't left level 4 yet because the death rate is very high. The government has said all along that it will be guided by the science now it's by the economy plus DC is out of limelight
bbc5live faisalislam We have a a smalll business. We have been grateful for the chance to furlough our only employee.we are due a second payment this week and have decided to 're employ as the work could pick up now so will not be claiming next month. Not everyone is cheating some are grateful
faisalislam Nice of him to laugh at the suggestion of an MP pay cut. Don’t worry....nurses and public sector will pay for it all (as always).
bbc5live faisalislam Whatever it takes. As long as it takes less than 8 months.
faisalislam The bail out of the banks was a lot lot more, and the banks were the cause of the collapse too! 😠. The UK system works for the few, not the many!
faisalislam Yeah it's his personal limit. Are all of these 'journalists' morons?
faisalislam
faisalislam And they're already conflating the tests for people who have had the virus with those who have got it. That's how they'll hit Mondays 200,000 figure.
faisalislam Just so I am clear furloughed workers are the tax payers they are not being done a favour by having 80% of their salary being paid stop saying it like furloughed workers are being done a favour furloughed workers will be the ones paying it back through their taxes
faisalislam Not a single mention of the fact that a further 324 people died of COVID today on the bbcnews twitter feed. Very sad😥
faisalislam Get ready for massive redundancies from companies like AIRLINES and TURISM that can't restart operation until August/October... And also get ready for a huge social crisis... RishiSunak
faisalislam Can you also clip up what he asked just before that. It was along the lines of what is the response to the revelations in the news this afternoon
faisalislam Banks got £500bn . Just sayin’
faisalislam It's not 'Generous' it's paying for your stupidity and the slow reaction to COVID19 that's caused us all to be unable to work for the last 2 months and probably longer for hospitality staff!
faisalislam We are also in negative interest rates territory.
faisalislam 8 months? It's been since March ffs. That's less than 2 months. And the furlough scheme will gradually increase step by step too. They're acting like they've been massively generous, but ignore the fact that it's our fucking tax money they're 'giving to us'.
faisalislam The banks got Furloughscheme UKlockdown CoronavirusPandemic SocialDistancing
faisalislam It’s been hugely generous. Supporting companies that would have otherwise had to make immediate hard decisions of redundancies. A scheme that will largely be unappreciated as the media seem to concentrate their attention on small irrelevant stories. justfacts
faisalislam 🤣💤🤣
faisalislam About time you asked some genuine questions for the public instead of last weeks media circus!
faisalislam Should there be a limit ? FurloughScheme
