New Zealand has all but eradicated the coronavirus, with just one person known to still be infected

The borders remain closed, with no word from the government on when this might change - instead, the tourism sector, which is a large part of the economy, is relying on New Zealanders visiting other parts of their own country. It is hoped a"trans-Tasman travel bubble" will allow New Zealanders and Australians to travel between each other's countries without restrictions - but this could be months away.

Earlier this month, the government unveiled a NZ$50bn fund to save jobs and reduce unemployment, but also warned that GDP for 2020 is expected to shrink by 4.6% before a gradual recovery by 2022.has been praised internationally for her leadership during the virus outbreak, but a successful recovery from its economic impact will be crucial when she runs for re-election in September.

luton_paul Congrats NZ, we can only look on in envy here in the UK.

Yep. Huge fines for breaching lockdown laws, roadblocks and a fascist like attitude to immigration. Amazing isn’t it?

👏🏻👏🏻

Idiocy, I guess they’re going to remain closed to the world forever then 😳

That poor person 🤦🏻‍♂️ letting the whole side down lol 😒

She should have a word with boris

Scum of the earth you are my dear

All parts of this planet have been effected with coronavirus, New Zealand's politicians are speaking through there ars.

Can we have her as our next manager please lol

She's done an incredible job. Yes the country has a low population, but to have a death count as low as theirs is astonishing.

Hardly anyone's there, the ones that are aren't packed in densely and there are surely fewer links to the world than the likes of London and New York. Makes sense.

Someone needs to snap her up quickly, because I can’t see a ring on the left hand 😍 whatawoman

We just have 3 active cases on the Isle of Man, no new cases for 10 days. Hopefully our borders will still be closed for some time yet.
