It comes after the prime minister said he wants 500,000 coronavirus tests to be available every day by October.

New rapid coronavirus tests that can detect the virus in just 90 minutes will start to be used in care homes and labs from next week.

The two new types of test do not require trained health staff to operate them and can also pick up other winter viruses.Currently most results from tests carried out in-person are returned the following day, while home kits take longer.will be hugely beneficial as we head into winter, so patients can follow the right advice to protect themselves and others."tests to be available every day by October amid fears of possible further waves in the winter.

The machines that process the tests come in desktop and palm versions and will be used in 'pop-up labs' as well as in existing facilities.

Just get the hell on with finding a vaccine. Only way now. Stop Pusey footing around Boris

Quite misleading I would say. From sample to results is not 90 mins (from reading nanopores site) this device only amplifies the DNA (makes more of it). It is does not provide results. You still have to sequence the DNA on another platform which takes ~3h. However....

Really pushing a quick lockdown to finish off the economy MattHancock BorisJohnson . Reminder, 99% survive and a positive does not equal death and should not count towards decisions that destroy our freedoms

So why can’t this be used in airports?

More BS.

Oh brilliant. Let's ensure a 'second wave' shall we... Ffs

Yeah right....this will be just another broken promise/lie that this corrupt government is trying to force feed us! Looking after care homes: lie Providing PPE (NHS etc): lie World beating track n trace system: lie Just to name a few.

Won't be volunteering my DNA

This great deadly plague that is all over the world needs a test kit?

Why next week other countries have been using them for months 🤷🏻‍♀️ you can’t get enough normal tests to care homes

Another gimmick ?

If thays the case, they should have these mandatory at airports so will alow travel!

It's boring now..

They've been performing 90 minute tests at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge since April. And not from the government but from a philanthropist who donated $3million to pay for them

GillJames54 Are they reliable ? Who manufactured them ?

Does it still show the Brocken DNA of an old Covid infection ? If so it’s pointless

Abramjee Is this supposed to be Good News?

How much has this been tested etc and it's reliability and accuracy? Just asking ?

Good for venues and people wanting entry.

I thought China had one testing in 25 minutes months ago?

New tests so first were inaccurate

That's great but as individuals you are spreading the virus you are not staying at home you are flying to spain and spreading a potential death sentence because Brits refuse to be told what to do.

Gives you enough time to watch the football then realise you’re fu-ked! 🤣

We need vaccine..
