Vets stress that pets pose little to no risk to their owners but recommend keeping cats indoors.

There is also evidence humans can transmit respiratory infections to wild great apes, which makes"We know that the virus did make the jump from an animal into humans [at the beginning of this crisis] but that appears to be because people were eating those infected animals," Prof Charleston said. Why should I keep my cat indoors in that case?

The British Veterinary Association points out that, like any surface, an animal's fur could carry the virus for a time"if a pet were to have come into contact with someone who was sick"."Treat pets like other people in your household. So if you're feeling sick, it's better not to interact with them," said Dr Almendros.

"I hope pet owners can sleep a bit better with the right advice and information," he added."It isn't easy these days, I know."

Stupidly sensationalist headline, very poor reporting. Potentially endangering cats lives because of this drivel, sort it out bbc!

It's time to pound that pussy...

'Make me'

Even CNN is a more reliable source than BBC and that's saying something

What a load of bull

Irresponsible reporting BBC! There is no evidence to suggest that animals can transmit Covid19! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

BBCLookEast Only if you are self-isolating or someone in your household has symptoms of Cov19

For fuck sake. Whatever next.

FormbyVillage Keep them away from 5G.

My semi-feral outdoors cat would shred any unfortunate would-be petter...

Finally. I've been saying it for years

Fake news

More Fake News from the BBC...do a bit of background research (because thats your job) and make sure you get your facts right before you publish articles like this !....😾

More shameful reporting ,shelters will have a busy few weeks

Mine has not

Most incredible, irresponsible reporting, for gods sake check your facts! This will do harm to cats and owners across the UK. You have a responsibility as journalists. Sadly lacking during this crisis. Disgusting

How accurate is this ! I mean just send all us cat owners into panic mode 😮😮

Most of apprehensive people threw them in rubbish to curb the disease with this bad situation.

BBC North Korean style fawning over the Great Leader now this base level irresponsible reporting.

My dog farts a lot. Can covid-19 be transmitted that way?

Can you be prosecuted for scaremongering and misleading headlines? Humans caused this , now you help to persecute cats. Your journalistic standards are gutterlike

Hi all you coronavirus cats and kittens

Get the headline right - keep cats in if the household has covid - otherwise it’s fine 😤

Ohhhhh my God!🐱

Trying to keep my cat in is dangerous. He attacks us if we don't let him out..

No they don't.

EidrisKasirye

Ffs why do you report things like this? Until it’s official my three cats are doing what they normally do, including being a comfort to me!

More lies from the BBC. And you wonder why we don't want to pay your thieving license fee. All the BBC do is spread lies, fake news, and sensationalised bullshit. Our vet totally disagrees with the BBC report.

Not even allow them out at night?

Don't spread misleading crap to an already confused public.

Only if your household has an infected individual or are otherwise self isolating.

Well respected vet States if somebody Strokes your cat that has the virus, the cat will have it on its fur, therefore if you touch your cat when it returns home there is a high chance of you catching it and please keep dogs on leads also!

You try telling Sid to stay in! ... oh wait.

Get your facts right

Primrose66 Are these vets, vets that have never met a cat?

Very irresponsible reporting. I thought you were better than that 😠

Fake news. You absolute imbeciles are going to cause pets to be abandoned mistreated and harmed. Retract now.

Last time I tried to keep my cat inside during a 3 day trip to Edinburgh....she physically ripped the cat flap off the wall and escaped...it ain’t happening...

No they don’t.

alexandra94__

Victoria Gill .... Just Piss off

More shit from BBC - Victor Gill is her Name Distress is her game

Do you take pleasure in stirring up trouble and spouting false information? Report the facts and the full story instead of a snippet on social media designed purely to cause hysteria. CatsOfTwitter Battersea_ CatsProtection Number10cat COVID19

bbcnews BritishVets this article is factually incorrect. The BVA have suggested cats from households where people are self isolating should keep cats in where possible. Retract and correct your article. It's dangerous for cats to vilify them.

What an awful headline and a contradictory uneducated article. People are going to start giving up animals and hurting other peoples cat CatsProtection

CatsProtection please can you provide a sensible response to this scaremongering! xx

Have vets *met* cats?!!?

Luna’s reaction to this is to take up reading apparently LunaInLockdown LifeInLockdown Isolife COVID19 Coronavirus

This is a massive misinterpretation for a headline and is not what vets recommend. Transmission from pets to humans HAS NOT been shown. If the household is isolating then keep cats in to reduce the risk of transmission from fur but keeping all cats in has welfare implications

Don’t wanna scare anyone. But my cat just sneezed.

Can see lots of pets being abandoned as a result of this kind of media ...more evidence is required

This advice will result in cats being attacked, like 5G phone masks. The advice should have been not to stroke other people's cats instead!

No feckin way.

This is irresponsible... People will abandon cats because they are so reactive they will blame them! Rediculous story, scaremongering, irresponsible bullshit.

My cat is already po'd at me.

So not one single reported case and vets advise extremely unlikely they can pass it on. Thought the great BBC was above click bait.....

How about an article about how keeping animals in poor conditions, immense cruelty and factory farming spreads disease instead? Have you forgotten how Covid started (the official version anyway). No, because that does not fit your agenda. Disgusting.

Cats and dogs can’t get cv19 do your own research 6 feet apart is for for 5G and 6 feet apart is for ever

We know that all alone! Even if they dont get COVID19 they will bring COVID19 into you home. If you stay in so should your cats!

Unless you eat the cat or the dog there is no risk of animal to human contamination.

BBC trying to cause more mass panic which will give them something else to report on! Ah, I see how they keep themselves in jobs.

I got a headache after reading the first couple of paragraphs. It doesn’t make sense or read well at all! Shoddy writing

And keep dogs on leads, perhaps!? Please be careful - domestic cats being singled out by in the media may lead to a rise in harmed or abandoned moggies.

BBCLookEast Stop scaremongering. is deliberately trying to demoralise, upset & engender unrest.

Keep cats indoors as they will spread covid but you don’t need to wear a mask when going to a supermarket full of people.

The tiger and lions at the zoo all showed symptoms. A month ago scientists thought that it could not be transmitted to cats or dogs. They also thought that only the old and vulnerable were dying. This is a new virus, we are still learning. Take precautions with your pets.

Check your facts. There is no evidence that cats spread COVID19 but by tweeting this you are probably putting cats in danger from harm by misinformed members of the public.

Bit of a misleading headline from a poorly written article. Tabloid journalism from the BBC.... hope there isn't an increase in abandoned pets from the BBC indulging in clickbait.

Yeah like cats are gonna stand for that !

This is irresponsible reporting. Cats cannot transmit the virus to humans and have a small chance of catching it themselves. Now there will be people who will abandon their cats because of fear or worse, someone may hurt them!

Hide your cats 'foot and mouth' style Kitty cull incoming .

Bollocks. That would be monstrously cruel. I have no cat, but all the local cats come to my garden and they are welcome to continue. You cannot catch the virus from a cat.

Next up on BBC News: Bees. Are they the news superspreaders? Later: Bloody squirrels! Them, too. What exactly IS Boris Johnson doing about protecting us from the little furry fuckers whilst he's lounging in his taxpayer-paid-for-bed at St Thomas's? Laura Keunssberg reports ...

So scaremongering again...?not what the article is about.poor

Don't touch or go near them

Cat are inside Animals %cat ear fish%same like us %dogs need off %we need cat if aliens attack cat protection more important know than dogs %we replace dogs by cat that set %let return the real art

Hes in lmao

Cats are on lockdown lost full

TheLovelyLivvie

A BBC journalist presented the headlines on the main news channel with the number 0808 2000 247, which is the hotline women in the U.K. can call if they need help, written on the back of her hand. All men need a Hug. Let,s just hug it out. I love everyone.

Very sad ... Nature must protect herself from the Human Being and its diseases.

PATHETIC BBC 🤦‍♀️😂🤦‍♀️

Ha ha...i'm out...now what u gonna do....

this is just as much about dogs as cats, so why is bbc pushing cat headline ?

Well nothing to worry about. Cat,s all life on Earth Women Reporters with 1800 I'll accuse you men of harassment and Sexisom on the back of her hand. And Racism and a little Virus called Covid 19 and fluffy my sweet kitten. Gee I feel safer already.

More pointless fear of the chinese virus from the BBC.. Woof woof 14, woof woof woof.

DONT LET YOUR KITTY'S OUTSIDE THEY ARE ON LOCKDOWN

Non story ?

Wat else

Oh, Thank you for the information. My cats are always indoors 🐱🐈🐱

Ye no you need to stop trying to scar people more with adding animals getting the virus

Are you actually properly mental? Has anyone ever been able to get a cat to do anything it doesn’t want to? The media in this country is acting very irresponsibly, your job is to report and comment on facts, not bizarre tin foil hat wearing conspiracy bullshit.

too many go missing without a GPS and there's nothing more stressful, keeping them indoors with cat towers and stimulation is safer- don't ignore their need for stimulation JacksonGalaxy

So we should all stop eating cat now?

Hide your cats, hide your dogs. The Chinese are having a party tonight.

Alexhaditaghi now trying to imprison the cats, wtf

RCVS BVA DefraGovUK Maybe a formal response to the Is required now

SHIT! SHE’S RIGHT BY THE DOOR!

Little or no risk = incarceration? What fecking world is this. Argh!!!!!

Lets just save time and talk about what can go outdoors without some doctors fit

LOL

Ok but have you tried keeping an outdoor cat indoors?

Oh jesus. The tin-foil hat brigade are going to be running around setting fire to cats as well as 5G masts now.

When did they not “recommend”?

sources for people to checkout click on link including the patents to Corona Virus and so on. If you never used linktree before.
