Ibuprofen is being tested to assess whether it can prevent severe breathing problems in coronavirus patients and reduce the number of people needing treatment in intensive care units.
Researchers at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital and King's College London are looking at whether"a specific form" of the cheap anti-inflammatory drug can help cut serious side effects fromIbuprofen has previously been said by politicians in France to worsen the symptoms of coronavirus. Professor Mitul Mehta has stressed that only hospitalised patients would be involved in the trial - to see if the drug will"reduce the respiratory problems they have", and not those who are so ill that they need to be in intensive care.He said:"We could reduce the amount of time that someone spends in hospital - they might recover quicker and go home, that's obviously a fantastic outcome.
"We also might be reducing the degree of respiratory distress so that it can be managed in the hospital setting, without needing to go to ICU, and that is a fantastic outcome as well.
swear to god, as someone who works in a pharmacy, if this makes people come in and panic buy ibuprofen i will have a breakdown
‼️‘NHS Advice: now confirmed that there is no clear evidence that using ibuprofen to treat symptoms such as a high temperature can make coronavirus (COVID-19) worse. Updated: 16 April 2020’
We do that for flu so now it’s flu! Wtf
We were told the opposite, it was supposed to make symptoms worst...
That means no ibuprofen in stores soon as people will panic buy again.
Totally irresponsible reporting. This is not the over the counter Ibuprofen. Encouraging people to buy and take a drug when it will do them no good and may even harm some is a very bad thing to do.
Constant back and forth with advice! This is beginning to look like all rubbish! What is really going on
Aspirin the wonder drug costing penny’s ...and now ibuprofen...’SIMPLES’
My wife is CKD4 and cannot take Ibuprofen in any form. Hence for the past 8 weeks I have done the shopping and gone everywhere for her, collected her meds etc. Good luck with those able to.
Obviously after their initial advice sales are down, so they’d try this tactic! So you’re saying after 10 weeks they’ve only just thought about trialling an off the shelf painkiller 🧐
Not for people with kidney disease
How about Lucozade and some Cream of chicken soup? Have they tried that?
