'If we have a circuit break now, what's going to happen next?' Dr_Ellie says new 'circuit break' lockdown rules are not a long-term solution - and the risks of COVID19 must be weighed against the increased risk of deaths from other illnesses. Latest:

Coronavirus: Australia set for lowest daily infections in months - as it says Europe serves as a warning

Matt Hancock, the health secretary, on Friday told Sky News that a national lockdown was the"last line of defence". "The instinct of the PM is that he has to keep this virus under control, because if there is a spike, it falls on his shoulders. I do feel for him." According to the Financial Times, experts on the government's Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies and the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Modelling have suggested a new national lockdown.

He added:"It isn't something that we ever take off the table but it isn't something that we want to see either, it is the last line of defence." Baroness Dido Harding, head of the National Institute for Health Protection, says that access to testing must be prioritised.

dr_simon A total Lockdown would not be a mark of failure. It would be the smartest thing to do to avert loss of thousands of more lives to 2nd wave of Coronavirus in UK..

Dr_Ellie BLM activists have just blocked Oxford Circus and stopped all cars. And guess what the police are doing. Nope, they’re not shutting down this illegal protest. They’ve just stood there watching them.

Dr_Ellie Couldn’t agree more. Lockdown is not without risk to health and is not an effective longterm strategy.

Dr_Ellie 60,000 will die

Dr_Ellie It would at LEAST give them time to sort out the Track +Trace out. They would have NO excuses.

Dr_Ellie As winter comes and inevitably more die from other causes I worry people are going to become hysterical about Covid..🤔🙏

Dr_Ellie Well said

Rishi Sunak urges Boris Johnson not to risk UK’s recovery with new lockdownRISHI Sunak has warned Boris Johnson not to sacrifice Britain’s economic recovery by going too far with new lockdown rules. The Chancellor urged the PM to protect as many businesses as possib… He rather people die money first as usual I think Sunak’s Eat Out strategy was a shot in the arm for the hospitality industry but a shot in the head to controlling the spread of the virus. What does Rishi care he lives in an “ivory tower” with his £Ms while he spends ours like water & in the end we’ll end up paying either with our lives, sickness or in poverty...He & the rest of government don’t care what happens to us as long as we keep paying our taxes 😡
