A health body in Lancashire and South Cumbria is ‘concerned’ about waiting times for children for speech and language therapy.
A document prepared for board members of Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board reveals that hundreds of children are waiting over a year for speech and language therapy. The document states: “Speech and Language Therapy waiting times continue to remain a significant challenge with 396 children waiting over 52 weeks.”
Sheena Cumiskey, chair of the quality committee, told board members the waiting times for speech and language therapy are ‘clearly something we are concerned about’.According to a report prepared for the board meeting, the ICB is taking action to address the waiting times. The ICB has requested short term funding for speech and language therapy and will review the end to end pathway.
The report adds: “The NHS workforce plan and ICB workforce strategy will focus on vulnerable services such as SLT where there are significant workforce challenges.”
