There were few passengers in Waterloo railway station during the morning rush hour earlier this week
With more workplaces opening up on Wednesday, people have been urged to avoid public transport if possible. "If you do travel, thinking carefully about the times, routes and ways you travel will mean we will all have more space to stay safe," its guidance adds.
And spend almost twice as long travelling as normal if you are using a London Northwestern train based on the timetable for today.
Avoid rush hour! 😆
The government are sounding desperate we was one of the last to go on lockdown (hence the massive death rates)now we one of the first to go back...albeit the working classes.
It’s not BBC News UK, it’s BBC News England. On the 6 o’clock news there were outside broadcasts from Portsmouth, Reading and Bootle.
Where feasible. If you are at work can you explain how if feasible to avoid rush hour
Thing is, avoiding rush hour will just make non rush hour the new rush hour if you know what I mean.
My brain hurts.
Don’t use public transport stay off if u can or work from home too rushed
So that means trains will carry about 60 people instead of 600!?
If all avoid rush hour...... when will it be next rush hour ?
Stations and facilities cleaned. That will be novel.
So if everyone ‘avoids rush hour’ & goes at a later time, then the later time will be the ‘NEW’ rush hour! 😳
social distancing ..2m apart on Trains , Tubes and buses ..so just how many EXTRA services need to run just to carry one normal commuter service. Talking more Bollox than Eddie and Richie ..who lets face it ..could run the country better after Eddie drunk all the Malibu ....
The people farthest away from the exit will never be able to get off because people will be sitting in positions too close for them to pass. Everyone just... StayHome
These sound rather familar........any details of what song to sing. May be 'Hi Ho Hi Ho its of the death we go.....'
Not looking at reality and facts. Even before the relaxation, workers using London Underground were crammed into carriages. More commuters on these trains is not going to help social distancing.
You can see it all coming. Crowded tubes and crowed trains, followed soon by crowded planes. No track and trace, and nowhere near enough tests. More and more outbreaks. Second wave a certainty. Lockdown returns.
Or in other words, this from HM Govt : 'Erm... we've tried everything we can think of. Totally out of ideas now. So - over to you. Good Luck!' (insert govt. approved 'thumbs up' emoji & head for rural Norfolk)
The Social Distancing element is just not possible. What analysis or 'science' supports this approach is going to keep Ro below 1.0? This evidence based information is being HIDDEN from the public. WHY?
I love it “where feasible” boris and cronies clearly have never travelled in rush hour. Its insane. Maybe if like politicians we can get lovely rent free pads close to work that would help, lole the example of Cat Smith in todays Times. One rule for them the rest of us r screwed
France, Germany and Spain have had the same issues since relaxing lockdown. In fact French commuter trains yesterday had standing room only.
How are they gonna protect those of us who work on the network? Because this poor woman wasn’t.
regularly cleaning stations is ‘new’?
Yeah, good luck with that .
“Stations and facilities to be regularly cleaned.....” what absolute genius came up with that radical idea!
Don't forget to tell the unions to support the return to work.
I don't think this government understands how the public transport system works...
So what about the London Underground? What’s the Mayor doing about that? His solution just wear a mask but still be crammed in like cattle!! SadiqKhan TfL
More advice from folk who apparently never use public transport?
Why don't employers stagger work times. Where possible.
Avoid rush hour will create another rush hour .
🤣🤣
There is no scientific proof if that antisocial distancing works and constantly washing your hands does not let your immune system get the vital bacteria etc that you need to keep your immune system healthy and active
Coverage yesterday showed packed transport with people sitting next to each other!
Advice is as clear as mud
I love that 'where feasible'. Complete abdication of responsibility.
BBCPolitics What about the transport staff how will they keep 6ft away from everyone and where are they going to get their face masks? They can't pick and choose when they travel!
'WHY AREN'T ALL THESE PEOPLE AVOID RUSH HOUR!!! I ALWAYS GET THIS TRAIN TO GET TO WORK ON TIME, WHY ARE ALL THESE PEOPLE HERE?'
Does anybody really beleive that you are safe only being 2 metres away? There is such a thing as wind outdoors and air con in workplaces e.g. offices, factories and supermarkets. If the virus can exist as a threat for three hours in the air then 2 metres could be 2 miles.
see what happened in S Korea, one night club 100 infected, let's see how many on the tube one morning in UK! Can PM/Ministers/Scientists demonstrate on social distancing, hands washing, as they r nation keyworkers now, on public transport stayhomesavelives livesbeforeeconomy
Numpty 😂😂😂 news flash. Settings, social construct- everyone leaves at the same time. Error code 404 not found.
I’m lucky if I get 0.3m of space between me and the next passenger. 0.3m is a luxury !
Just avoid public transport
Do the government understand what a public transport is?
Gov leave ur bubble & join the real world plz! As alwz, recommendation different to execution in reality! Why no face covering when droplets can't be avoid & hands-washing not feasible in reality! Even when UK at its peak of CV19, we didn't see any deep clean on the street etc!
Go to work but avoid rush hour......sounds like a plan...
looks like i need to prep my private helicopter 😊
Where is the logic?
In other words use common sense.
BBCPolitics Bottom line: we can't continue like this until a vaccine is available sometime in 2021 (possibly). Many people can't work from home and will have to return to a place of work. For many of those, there will be no alternative to public transport. Compromises will have to made.
BBCPolitics Time to turn off the aircon in those sealed up train carriages, unbolt the windows and let fresh air in DHSCgovuk transportgovuk grantshapps FreshAir
Shambles
BBC news you are a disgrace, you shouldn’t be quoting the government uncritically in telling people to go back to work, we’re not through the so first peak yet never mind the second
Huh
BBCPolitics If only it was as easy to do as it was to say.
UVC lamps emitters for subways elevators decontaminate air surfaces no harm to human tissue
Or don't go to work and stay at home
BBCPolitics Get the cabinet on the underground at rush hour and show us how it’s done, simple
And when you get the virus be sure to die quietly with minimum fuss.
These are measures conjured up by people who clearly never travel on public transport.
Quite clearly Boris Johnson or any of his cronies have NEVER BEEN ON A BUS. This is the dangerous clutterfck advice that Johnson has be spewing months ago, the only time we had ANY CLARITY was when he pssed off to Chequers.. Can't he do us all a favour & take paternity leave
You get paid by license fees i.e. tax payers and still working as a PROPAGANDA for this useless government! Shame on bbcnews. Take a leaf out of piersmorgan in journalism lessons.
Laughable.
I've always done this on public transport anyway if at all possible....
My prediction - UK public transport will be discovered to be the number 1 source for Coronavirus. Nobody wears a mask and there is no sunlight to kill the virus
Obviously simple common sense. That’s what stay alert means
And how will this be enforced?
'where feasible'
BBCPolitics For those who can afford cars, I guess - sorted out the parking, have they? The poor can go ahead and infect each other on public transport. Another fine mess you've got us into, BorisJohnson.
Ridiculous. I smell bullshit.
How tf you going to tell people to commute but avoid rush hour? They do understand why rush hour exists right?
If everyone avoids rush hour, lots of people will be late for work and be sacked. The government showing yet again it has a poor grasp on how real life actually works.
But if someone sneezes - get another 21 feet away sharpish!
Not going to work
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 👍
Two things. 1. Horse 2. Shit
What is new about any of that?
In England
Common sense.
