Talks to break Brexit deadlock falter in Brussels but the attorney general plods on regardless

You had to admire the sang-froid. Just 24 hours after returning from the Brexit negotiations in Brussels where he’d spent the entire working dinner being asked “Are you having a laugh?” and “What planet are you on?” in a variety of European languages, Geoffrey Cox was back in the Commons looking entirely unruffled to face attorney general questions. Top lawyers have to get used to winning and losing. The secret is being able to dress up the losses as successes.
