Colchester landlord told to remove advertising sign after 63 years

Mr Rayner said there was a sign when his father purchased the former filling station there, along with the two adjoining homes, in 1959. "If the council spoke to us in a more normal manner, and outlined what they were trying to achieve with this so-called conservation area, we might have been prepared to discuss it," Mr Rayner said.

A Colchester Borough Council spokesman said: "Following the introduction of the recently designated Mill Field Estate Conservation Area and the Garrison Conservation Area, the display of advertisements on the site is considered detrimental to the visual amenity of the area due to the scale, prominence and visual intrusion of the signage."

So it was made a conservation area in 2020 Well the sign must be part of the conservation paper so it has to be preserved as any other structures in that designated conservative area... We couldn't change windows in our homes until the clash between energy efficiency/conservation

After 63 years it should be conserved. The council need to stop wasting time. If that sign isn't allowed then neither should double glazing or modern street lights.

Put the sign on the side of an old van and park it there
