A shortage of carbon dioxide gas means Christmas dinners could be cancelled, the owner of the UK's biggest poultry supplier has said.has caused two large fertiliser plants in Teesside and Cheshire which produce CO2 as a by-product to shut, hitting supply to the food industry.
CO2 is used in the humane slaughter of livestock and to extend the shelf-life of products. It is also vital to cooling systems for refrigeration purposes, industry leaders have said.

Why does a price increase of gas mean they stop production of co2? Why not instead put the end price up of the co2? There appears to be the demand for it.

Who needs turkeys anyway? The shortage will mean people diversify away from the outdated americanised tradition of turkey at xmas There are plenty of more interesting local delicacies that can be sourced fresh from UK farms and shores Pidgeon, winkles, goat to name but a few
