The mum-of-two was a gifted sports star and dedicated volunteer

A Co Antrim GAA club has paid tribute to a much-loved and committed volunteer, former player and coach who passed away after a battle with cancer.

“All at Naomh Gall are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Ciara Ferry, our former senior player and beautiful young mother of our juvenile players Orlaith and Cillian.“She was part of our very successful Ladies team, winning numerous County Championships throughout her career, and in later years moved into administration and training, facilitating many events and training opportunities for Clubs and players throughout the County.

Ciara originally hailed from Letterkenny and began her playing career with St Eunan’s, winning an Ulster club title in 1993 while she also represented Donegal at underage level. “Our prayers and thoughts are with her wife, Lorraine, her children Orlaith and Cillian, and her parents Noel & Mary and sister Ríona and niece Kelsey and all the extended Ferry and Megahey families who are heartbroken at her loss.

“We will remember her civility and humility off the field as she battled her cancer illness with courage, bravery and grace, she never complained and was even playing walking basketball up to recently.
