Punk said back in October that he had auditioned for a role on WWE Backstage, telling Collider: ‘This goes back to me being in a position in my life where I’m like, “What do you got?” I’m very much in a position where I’m like, “Well, talk to me”. I’m open to anything.’
However, he claimed he had never been contacted after his audition – and he left the WWE nearly six years ago on a pretty sour note. The star notoriously walked out on WWE in January 2014 at the height of his career, with the company removing Punk from promotional videos and their active roster six months later.Punk alleged that WWE handed him his termination papers on his wedding day to AJ Lee in 2014, and cited his health as the main reason for leaving the company – alleging he had been working through concussions and a staph infection.
He previously put a kibosh on returning to the ring, telling Collider: ‘If they come at me and they’re like, “Hey, we want you to wrestle”. I’m gonna be like, “I’m not interested”. ‘I’ve grown so much as a person and I look back at all that stuff and I don’t need the confrontation and the drama. I’m a businessman. But I put my morals and integrity above business deals.’
