A new charge is being implemented in Nottingham for garden waste bins, bringing the city in line with most others across England. Residents receiving the service from the city council will need to opt-in online and pay an annual fee of £35.
There will be a discount for any additional garden bins at a property, and households receiving Council Tax benefit can get the service for £17.50. Due to the upcoming bank holiday, garden waste collections will begin on Saturday, March 31, and they will be collected on the same day as recycling bins.
Councillor Coral Jenkins, Portfolio Holder for Energy, Environment and Waste Services at Nottingham City Council, said: “Most local authorities across England charge for garden waste collections, including all of our neighbouring councils.
Residents who subscribe to the service will receive a sticker permit to put on their garden waste bin. Residents who do not want to sign up for the collection service can still take their garden waste to a tip for free.
