Nottingham City Council says it is "prudent" to consider council tax options including a rise as high as 10% next year. Despite having closed the budget gap for this ongoing financial year after receiving exceptional financial support from the Government, Nottingham City Council is forecasting a £172 million budget gap over the next three years.
Government rules currently state that local councils can only increase council tax by a maximum of 4.99% before holding a local referendum. Nottingham City Council went ahead with this maximum council tax rise for the current financial year, but the authority has hinted that it may now go further next year.
