The Irish actor, 47, played the "father of the atomic bomb" J Robert Oppenheimer in the Christopher Nolan-directed film. As soon as he was announced as winner of Best Actor in a Leading Role, he kissed his wife before heading to the stage.
Cillian ended his speech in Irish, saying "Go Raibh Maith Agat" which means thank you. As well as a rare moment of PDA with his wife, Cillian also thanked their two young sons who were watching the ceremony in the audience. He later poked fun at Robert's former drug use as he began: "This is the highest point of Robert Downey Jr's long and illustrious career... well one of the highest points..."
