When the terrorist killed those in his path outside the Linwood mosque on Friday, Abdul Aziz, 48, didn’t hide – instead, he picked up the first thing he could find and rushed outside while screaming ‘come on’.
Another 48 were wounded with 20 of those described as being in a critical condition, including a four-year-old girl. The imam saw a man in black military-style gear and a helmet holding a large gun, and assumed it was a police officer. However, he then saw two bodies on the ground and heard the gunman yelling obscenities.Alabi yelled at the congregation of more than 80 to get down. They hesitated. A shot rang out, a window shattered and a body fell, and people realised it was for real.
