Gingerbread has criticised a government decision allowing parents during the lockdown to change the amount they pay towards their child's upkeep without any investigation. "I got a message from her father saying due to coronavirus he wouldn't be paying me any more," she said.

I'm not meaning to be bad, but if a family splits up, the parent who gets the children should be using any money from the absent parent as extra income, not base income. Too many people see their children as a means to keeping their hands in an ex's pockets.

When the dust settles on this awful situation there should be a reassessment. We must understand that 'growth at all costs' does not serve us. Equally, those who think it is ok to have children when they cannot afford it will need to rethink
