Chelsea and Liverpool play out drab draw to confirm their current status by Hindsight4Sport

This was the underachievers’ derby with both clubs enduring mediocre campaigns. After this tepid encounter Liverpool are 8th while Chelsea are three places behind.

The home side’s France World Cup winner N’Golo Kante started the game as captain, which must have been reassuring for Blues’ fans as the midfielder always brings a sense of calm to the side. Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson were all on the bench, with Diogo Jota the only one of the front three to keep his place. Key defender Virgil van Dijk was absent from the matchday squad.

Having spent millions in recent transfer windows, the acquisition of a genuine goal scorer would have been useful. While Chelsea were getting into enemy territory and flopping, all the while you thought that the visitors would nick a goal of their own. Matip was booked within seconds after a foul on Felix who came in for some rough treatment all match.
