A wildlife charity boss who slammed a cake in a lion’s face as part of his birthday celebrations has apologised.
Blend Brifkani, founder wildlife charity the American-Kurdistan Cooperation Organisation, brutally smashed a cake in the face of Leo the lion as part of a bizarre birthday celebration ritual.Leo appears happy and relaxed before Brifkani pies him in the face.Brifkani ‘pied’ Leo the lion to celebrate his own birthdayBrifkani originally posted the video to his own Instagram account before deleting it after it was picked up by disgusted animal rights campaigners.
In response Brifkani released an apology video, where he can be seen rolling around with Leo and tickling him.He looks mournfully at the camera as he says: ‘It has been a few days since the video of Leo’s birthday and me throwing the cake in his face went viral.‘For me this was an innocent act of love but I now realise that it was wrong.’He then goes on to address his work with the American-Kurdistan Cooperation Organisation, a campaign group that protects animal’s rights in Kurdistan.
He says: ‘Currently we are working on a project for Leo and four other lions that we have discovered to be in Iraq who are orphans that have been sold and made money off of.‘And will set them free in a place closer to their natural habitats.’
