Northern Ireland's animal welfare system is in a state of utter collapse, says the SDLP 's Cara Hunter who has uncovered shocking sentencing figures for convicted animal abusers.
The results prompted her to call for an immediate and urgent overhaul of the animal welfare system in Northern Ireland, branding it 'completely failed'. Cara said: "The leniency of sentences handed down in these horrific cases is not serving as a deterrent. "And there is a significant confusion over the role and readiness of our enforcement bodies in handling animal welfare cases.
