One fire appliance was mobilised and the blaze was extinguished. Firefighters remain at the scene as they work to secure the area.
There are not believed to be any injuries. Images from the scene show orange flames engulfing the black Vauxhall Corsa which has stopped in a lay-by. A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 8.36am on Monday, 20 February to reports of a car on fire on the A915, Standing Stane Road. Operations Control mobilised one appliance to the scene where firefighters extinguished one vehicle which was well alight.
