Coronavirus: Can the UK do 100,000 tests a day?

You need staff to take the swabs from patients' noses or throats, and staff in labs to process the tests. We're talking about diagnostic tests to find out if you have the virus here - ones that involve a nose or throat swab that has to be sent off to a lab.

As well as labs, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the government would now call on UK-based"pharmaceutical giants" GlaxoSmithKline and AstraZeneca to make the reagents necessary to carry out the tests. Part of being able to scale up means"being willing to cede a little control over where, how and by whom the tests are conducted in order to increase capacity and decrease turnaround times", according to Prof Eleanor Riley, an immunologist at the University of Edinburgh.

Health workers ‘warned against speaking to the media ...’, ‘bbc agreed to change her name to protect identity’ , another dirty propaganda from the bbc

With the collapse of the capitalist economy a lot of people will become mentally unwell. GPs are fuelling Britain's mental health crisis by referring patients to psychiatric services which are not only fraudulent but are destroying people's lives.

I'd like to know....

I thought MattHancock said the problem was U.K. didn’t have the biomedical recourses. It is more factual to say “we don’t have the capacity, as we didn’t ask for any”, shortage of reagents needed, “we didn’t ask for any” &”we are talking to supermarkets”. Lies & obfuscation.

Not in Wales... robbery

What's the point if? If you test 100000 and they all come back negative do you test the same 100,000 again next day? Have people they less of a chance of getting it just because they've been tested?

No !!

No

No, in answer to your question, but they will find something or someone to blame, which is not under their control, to ensure they have an excuse.

More negative reporting from BBC, who knew.......

ISSUE WITH FACE MASKS IS U CANT STOP PEOPLE FORCING THEMSELVES 2 CLOSE 2 U IE ON NARROW PAVEMENTS OR COMING TO STAND BY YOU. Thats why wearing face masks together with eye guards 2 are good idea BUT U MUST STILL TRY 2 KEEP 2M + DISTANCE YOURSELF. FACEMASKSORNOT RT

If it can't then come May 1st MattHancock should resign, no excuses, 26 days and counting, surprised government set the figure so high, obviously confident, I hope tests are nationwide, my wife is an NHS nursing assistant in Northumberland...

They don’t want the tests, they want the vaccine

sure we can...line up sheep...🤔

Even at 100,000 a day that will still take over a year to test everyone, do the math.

tory pledges, they are many and all fell short of fulfillment

Pointless article written in a hurry by a bbc hack who doesn’t really understand the problem. Btw they managed the 10000 tests on time.

We live in unprecedented times, in the grip of an unprecedented pandemic, all nations wanting medical supplies in unprecedented quantities in unprecedented timescales, surely support should be given to governments making unprecedented decisions and STOP asking for guarantees.

Why do not continue the herd immunity?

Is aiming for 100,000 and reaching 60,000 better than aiming for 25,000 and reaching the target? I think so. Failure to reach the target, if that is what happens, is the way it should be reported. Use your common sense for goodness sake!

Note that it generally takes multiple tests to confirm a case.

If they are not anti body tests, it’s a waste of time and money.

How about you and all other silly media help their task ! Other than knocking them !

Need intelligent testing, not mass testing! Someone could get a negative test result, then go out and catch the virus 10 mins later...

People with symptoms trying to get thru to 111 for over 4 hrs and still they cant get thru, how are they going to do 100000 tests a day if people cannot even speak to NHS telephone operators

No

What are you going to do if they don't? Be complicit in more of the bullshit excuses they'll undoubtedly make.

No

Why do they always set themselves up for a fall. 40 “new” hospitals, 50k “extra” nurses, carry on shaking hands, the ventilator debacle and now 100k per week. At best ineptitude, at worse they’re taking us all for fools.

What good is a test without a vaccine in place,

Well the government won’t be coming to the Beeb for their advice given their record on extensions at broadcasting house and eastenders sets, now will they.

As well as trying to manage to reach to reach 100000 tests a day, what about having enough ventilators, beds and medical staff to cope with all the positive cases daily cases!

More to the point does the Government care. I don't think they will bother.

For short, let us just say Britain isn't prepared for this pandemic and as a result, it was caught bitterly nipping. If there is any tangible thing our government has learned from this deadly scenario is the need to start pumping more funds into its NHS industry post-COVID-19.

For what purpose

good about time the media called out westminster lies. and the answer is probably not.

they cant even do 15000 so what chance 100,000 none.

If a headline ends in a question mark the answer is usually 'No'...

All health care workers should be tested, whether symptomatic or not. Does anyone have the stats for how many people contracted the virus whilst already in hospital for something else?

I’m sure we’ll smash the target, already achieved some incredible things!

On tik tok they forced a men tot take a shot this is not legal the dokters don't now the effect it was so horrebel to watch it how this men was screaming it out ... This is not fight to Force test on People who wanna waith till you have the vaccin

Other breaking news , I'm Julian Clareys secret love child lol that is more likely to be true !

No.

The basic answer is NO. They don’t have a reliable test yet and as the FDA have stated, the current tests are not reliable and should not be used for statistics. Hancock is pulling numbers out of the air. No plan, no strategy, so just lie lie lie !!!

For what purpose?

been criticising the government for weeks that it is not doing enough testing, now it’s says can we do more testing...

No country can...

Was that article written after reading the EU’s assessment paper on the UK’s health system?

Which tests

Yes but Only if it’s 100,000 members of Parliament/royal family or the super rich and famous

To test all UK population will take 664 days?

We’ve missed every other testing deadline. Why is this dead cat going to be any different?

Perhaps you should ask if you thought it was possible to build the Nightingale Hospital in London in two weeks? I'm sure you would have said they couldn't. Give them a chance, if it's possible they will i'm sure. 🙂

No

I recommend using a test kit from a reliable source. False positives can really some freaky 'stuff' with medical charts n' graphs.

masks4alluk

If it means the way forward, it is possible!

Well they can't remove cladding, or sort the homeless out, so i'm gonna say no. They'll change the subject soon enough.

No.

What good does testing do? A negative test means nothing if the person contracts the virus the next day.

The UK can't even do 1,000 a day. 100,000 is another statistic that sounds good, but isn't based on realistic achievements.

Not with the Tories organising it.

No

Try try try... 🙏🙏🙏

No chance.

No

YES. 'If there is a will......' NHSCovidHeroes HealthcareHeroes CovidTesting

Short answer.....NO!
