The Spiders sextet are hoping to impress national team coaches this week

Cambuslang kid Jamie McCarthy is one of six talented teens from Queen’s Park hoping to take a step towards fulfilling their Scotland dreams after being selected for trials with the national setup.

“I think the way all the boys are looking at it is that they’ve played against all these boys they are up against and they have never let themselves down, so they can go into it with confidence. It doesn’t mean they are going to go on to the next stage of the process, but they don’t need to be overawed, they just need to go and enjoy it.

David added: “I’m always saying to Jamie, there’s Andy Robertson and Lawrence Shankland who both started there. So that’s two of the current Scotland squad who started at Queen’s Park and those guys are inspirational for these boys.“Jamie would love to be a professional and that’s what he wants to do, but he knows there is a million miles to go before that.

“It is recognition for not only the players but their teammates, coaching staff and support staff within the academy.
