The shake-up to the school calendar could see shorter summer holidays and longer half term breaks in a bid to help boost pupils' learning There could be a major shake-up to the school calendar as we know it in the near future, as a new report calls for pupils' summer holidays to be cut from six weeks to four.

' He added that reducing the summer holidays from six weeks to four would 'still provide adequate time for teachers to recuperate' and that 'two-week breaks during the February and October half-terms would give much-needed time off during the most gruelling parts of the academic year'. 'Identifies some very real issues' Some local authorities have already made some changes to the school calendar, by introducing a two-week autumn half term break.
