Annemarie Plas is credited with starting the clap for carers initiative, which ran for 10 weeks

People are being encouraged to celebrate the NHS's 72nd birthday and thank key workers for their support during the coronavirus pandemic with a nationwide clap next month. NHS England boss Sir Simon Stevens and the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby are among the influential figures supporting the initiative.Clap for carers founder Annemarie Plas is also backing the campaign.

Dutch-born Londoner Ms Plas was credited with starting the nationwide applause for NHS staff and key workers, which saw millions of people clapping at their windows and on their doorsteps on Thursday evenings in lockdown.and be replaced by an annual event, said:"Now is the time to expand this gratitude and acknowledge everyone who has and is still helping us through this crisis.

We clapped every Thursday for 10/11 weeks. I thinks everyone has said thanks. Before we know it , we'll be clapping every year for the birthday of the NHS.

If the nhs were forced to pay out all their negligence claims it would be in the billions! Clap that!

Sod off with the clapping

Why don’t you show your appreciation by paying them a decent but wage rather than cheap empty gestures. A clap doesn’t pay the bills. Pathetic.

Not again ! Clap yes But no fireworks so my dog is scared

Who’s asking?

Don't we reserve clapping for positive performance?

No no no no no no no no no.

No - the NHS is a failure...

As long as there's no kneeling

It's a no from me.

Never clapped, never will 👍

The country's new religion

Will we be allowed to do this though because it was an English man that did it for us.

Not going to start now!

More feel good ritual, and frankly nonsense.

Not now

Not this again...

What Francis says

Enough. Clapping doesn’t do anything for the staff anymore. It was lovely but frightening in the beginning as the staff realised this was actually happening and while they had no ppe the public clapped.

Oooh, I'm getting a bit rusty at clapping since it stopped so I had better start practicing, can't wait until the 5th !!!

I think not.....

FFS hopefully I will be on a flight to Spain that day

Not again... 🙄

North Korea!!!!

No. We have sacrificed our jobs, relationships, economy and way of life to 'protect the NHS'. Isn't that enough? Enough of this BS performative ritual displays of virtue. Clapping, kneeling all of it - it's pseudo-religion.

Clapping achieves nothing. No thanks.

No. We have ruined our country, freedoms and way of live to 'protect the NHS'. Enough of this BS performative rituals to display virtue. Clapping, kneeling, all of it needs to go.

Oh ffs

A tad silly. 😂

Nah sorry I'm all clapped out

Stop this nonsense and do some proper journalism. Why were we ever locked down? Why weren't the consequential problems of lockdown ever properly evaluated? Why doesn't the government's measures take into account the fact that 90%+ of deaths are 65+ with pre-existing conditions?

Will you be short of a news item on that day? Is that why you are asking?

Thank the workers on the shop floor by all means, but kick up backsides for the management pushing 'medically fit' but with a cold patients into care homes as part of the Winter flu bed clearing policy Nationwide. That 'cold' from January was COVID-19 and the rest is history.

No thanks will not be participating in this ridiculous hero worshiping. Meanwhile the rest of us are being made redundant due to the inept governments lockdown.

źzzzzzzzz

Looooooool

I'd rather the government pulls their heads out their asses and pay the NHS what they need & deserve

No. I'm a key worker and worked right through this. It's my job. Simple.

Clap off

Go to hell

Yeah course you can ask...🙄

Nope.

No!!! I clapped for 3 wks. The likes of you and your activists masquerading as journalists turning it political turned me right off the whole thing. DefundTheBBC

10 million on waiting lists. And you want me to go out and clap for the NHS? Not a chance!

No chance.

And boo for conservatives to follow 😃

It’s 73 in Scotland more information wrong its every news bulletin in Scotland

God no .we done enough clapping for them

Been there done that. I love the NHS but let’s just pay their wages and give them a raise! This is a distraction that lets the tories off the hook!

🙄

No i'm good thanks

Oh please🤦‍♂️ from an NHS worker, no!

Every time clap

Had a Labour government not won a landslide victory over Churchill’s conservatives in 1945 then there would’ve never been a NHS. Lest we forget!

What is with the English and all these meaningless gestures? Why don't you demand your govt adequately funds your NHS instead of privatising it by stealth.

Get the fireworks ready, get your fancy dress ready, find the things that can make the biggest noise. 'Look at me' clapping is coming back.

You mean the NHS that cancelled everything but covid? Ill pass.

As of 5 July the following Thursday schedule has to be applied: 6pm kneeling for BLM, 7pm removing statues or street or building names not diverse enough, 8pm clapping for the NHS...Enjoy your summer...

Even after it sent infectious people back to care homes? Ghoulish but I can’t help admire the chutzpah

Send this to the thousands of protesters that are f**king up all the good work the NHS has done..... oh but BBC didnt see that ! BS !

Not a chance in hell! I am sick to death of the mass hysteria that has infested our society!

StayAlert Protect Our NHS Save Lives Save Our UK Save Our Europe and Prevent Coronavirus. Thank you 👍👍 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Goodness me, I’ve only just got the pans back in the cupboard...

No

No, no more

How about we protest Government until they get what is owed and deserved. A clap only makes your guilt a little better until you realise again it achieved nothing. NHS

Who is asking? The British Government? Thank key workers, and the NHS with your political affiliations instead. This clapping lark gives me the creeps.

NoClap10percentPayRiseforNHSStaff

Protest has increased NHS workload...

No I won’t be clapping ! We are now allowing thousands to protest, Bishops, media and politicians are condoning it and nobody cares about the NHS or the police and the sacrifices we have all made.. stop the hypocrisy

Hahahaha, not a fucking chance.

OK!!! I will definitely Wish a very happy birthday to NHSuk and i will Clap for NHS key workers as soon as Possible right now. Thank you. 👍👍 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

No sell it

Enough with the clapping. Show your appreciation for the NHS by not increasing the demand on the service. Simple. Oh, and if you do find yourself needing the NHS, then say thank you to the workers. Doctors, nurses AND EVERYONE ELSE. That's definitely appreciated.

Nah I'm good I'm done with Briton until the government stop giving into racist terrorists then and only then have you the wright to ask us to do something fuckthebbc fuckblm alllivematter stoprappersfromusingtheNbomb

please clap, citizen

Make your mind up!

Not a chance. NHSKilledMyWife

No last time, no this time🇬🇧 Same reasons Pathetic, empty, virtue signalling Also mindless barking on command - of whom?

Wonder if they will be same people that packed beaches, parks and attended mass protests?

I’d like to think no protestors, secret ravers/parties or beach goers will be clapping?

Tory voters should be banned from it.

Can’t wait to see people do the conga

NO CHANCE

No thanks.

Yay! Worst death rate in the world apparently. Clap clap clap clap clap.
