Maybe a prorata system where you don’t get full help until you have worked for x time, so yes free meals for kids but if accommodations are provided this cost is stored and needs to be paid back once a job is found, help yes more but hand out less
I have no issue with supporting people with free meals or help no matter where they are from but surely linking this to paying taxes would be fairer, someone who has served or been layed off has paid taxes and deserves more financial support then someone who has never paid in

The free school meals is a joke. At our primary school we were told that if we opted out of a free school meal that the school would receive less funding.

Deduct the cost of the free school meals from the Child Benefit payment. That way the child benefits directly.
