The Government says it remains committed to the electrification of a rail line connecting Nottingham with London by early 2030 after a council leader said the project was moving at a “snail’s pace”. Network Rail is currently working on what it describes as the biggest programme of improvements to the line since its completion in 1870.
However, the pace of the work was criticised during a Nottingham City Council Communities and Environment Scrutiny Committee on Wednesday . Cllr David Mellen , the authority’s leader, said Queen’s Road in the city is one of the most polluted routes in Nottingham. Responding to the council leader’s comments on the progress of the plans, a Department for Transport spokesperson said: “This claim is untrue.
