California: more than 1.5 million without power amid shut-off to avoid wildfire

More than 1.5 million people in northern California were in the dark Thursday, most for a second day, after the state’s biggest utility shut off electricity to many areas to prevent its equipment from sparking wildfires as strong winds sweep through.

Last year California had a reservoir so full of water that it was about to break the damn and flood a city. This year they cut power to avoid worse fires. Maybe they should have built the infrastructure that the Army Corps of Engineers said they needed 20 years ago.

Immediate, massive class action lawsuits seem to be in order.

My question is how could this power company decide this unilterally without talking to the governor or the state? It may or mat not be a good idea. but it should be done with planning.
