Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng was accused of lying on TV, before the same Treasury source revealed the meetings he said he was having over how to sort out the looming industry crisis are not happening at all.

There is no appetite for bailouts from either the business secretary or the Treasury - this was done recently and in very limited and specific circumstances, not to be repeated. An energy price cap for small businesses seems to be almost off the table, but alternative options would all need millions if not billions of extra taxpayer money, not something the government wants to have to do.

Couple this with the fact that COP26 looms just around the corner, and ministers are even less keen to be subsidising gas at a time when they want to be seen to hike levies on it to discourage its use. As with everything, there is likely to be a middle way, but it's clear the business secretary hasn't yet defined what that looks like to his Treasury colleagues who ultimately have to pay the bill.

A source in the business department says more meetings will happen this coming week to work out what industry needs and what ministers can do to help.Related Topics

This is a result of lies, mis information incompetence and a total lack of trans parity. The public are not stupid mugs and know when politicians are ducking and diving and frankly it’s embarrassing and contemptible. We are not frightened of the truth nor are we children. Shame.

You hate the tories….

Getting comfy for the next series. Ordered popcorn 🍿 😂

Yet when it's the PM lying on TV you fail to mention it 🤷‍♂️

Good to see boris's character rubbing off on the rest of his cabinet. Lies.

First rule of Boris club is to lie lie and if you really struggling go on holiday asap, you won't be sacked but you may get a bonus from some of best donor's

Tories lies?

Maybe if the Boris did a days work instead of going on holiday

And what does BorisJohnson 10DowningStreet do, just as the UK is facing it's next big crisis just as he did at the start of the pandemic last year, he disappears. Typical Conservatives attitude it only effects the ordinary person & not me so nothing to do with me.

What energy crisis? Just relevelling after Brexit. Oven ready solution will be launched when Boris has finished building his sand castles in Marbella.

While the cat's away !

It’s all fake anyhow. Fuel was stock piled throughout global lockdowns and demand has fallen off the cliff.

About time. We need more of this, call out the lies when they are made.

not a fan of Kwarteng, but he fronted up on TV political interviews. If the 'Treasury Source' has an accusation to make, the least they can do is go on the record.

Is it iriony that Russia provides us with gas, and they also own the conservative party?
