A burglar injured a police dog after hitting it with a garden chair while being detained by officers.
Four males were spotted on Prospect Road in Rawtenstall and patrols descended on the area to conduct a search. One male from the Manchester area was detained shortly after 6am.Rossendale Police said that 'unfortunately he threw a garden chair at the dog cutting the dogs nose' during the arrest. The male later received treatment to his leg 'for the subsequent bite marks'.
In a statement, a force spokesperson said: "Overnight there have been a number of burglaries and reports of suspicious activity mainly around Rawtenstall and Crawshawbooth. Patrols have been out all night responding to these calls and proactively searching for suspects.
