The mercury will plunge to as low as -3C overnight across the weekend - but thankfully the sun will make a blinding appearance during the afternoons.A bright start to the day in Southport, MerseysideAfter a frosty morning tomorrow, temperatures will leap to "way above average" for this time of year.But Brits should enjoy it while they can as theMet Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern said: "Next week looks wet, windy and very mild across the UK, particularly in the west.

"This weekend by contrast will start off cold, and then many places will enjoy a dry and bright weekend, with the brightest skies across the east and the south east."It will be a chilly start for many on Saturday with temperatures in the towns and cities down into the low single figures in the north and the east.

"In the countryside, knock off a few degrees and we're looking at widespread frost in the east and the north.
