But farmers worry that British workers won’t be as willing to take on the labour intensive shifts as their eastern European counterparts.

The farm typically employs 180 people at the peak of the season. With flights now being run to bring Romanian workers to the UK, Alex is hopeful some will take up positions. ‘As the harvesting season begins for the vast majority of farms and crops from May onwards we still have thousands of roles available for people who are in need of a job,’ she said.
