Britons in Wuhan to return home on Friday

In another development, Prime Minister Boris Johnson's spokesman said the government was pressing Beijing to allow the spouses or partners of UK nationals to be on the flight.

He said they were also concerned about the risks of flying, having seen reports that three Japanese people on evacuation flights were found to have the virus. Jeff Siddle, from Northumberland, told the BBC his family faced a"terrible dilemma" after he and his nine-year-old daughter were told they could fly back - but not his Chinese wife, who has a permanent residency visa for the UK.

Hundreds of foreign nationals are being evacuated from Wuhan, with Japan, the US and the EU among those repatriating their citizens.

Not flying into London though are they! They’re bringing them up North!

What makes the UK nationals more important and exempt from China's government quarantine than those who want to leave but cant? Yes I know they will be placed in it here, just wondering?

Japan had its citizens evacuated this week and, unfortunately, three japaneses were infected with the new coronavirus.

My son lives in China, Annui province. They've had no updates from their workplaces as to what they're supposed to be doing, other than there's no work until mid Feb, they've had no contact from the uk embassy. They've just been left with only the media team keep them informed!

Better they’re put on a hospital ship for a two week cruise than risk them on the mainland.

You people are making it sound as if they won't be put under quarantine. They're British citizens, we shouldn't abandon them.

BBCPolitics Some people are naive on here with their comments. I suspect it is a military aircraft as said military medics on board who all will be in protective suits. RAF have a world class aeromedical squadron. They said they will be quarantined on a military base. Calm down people!
