Iran often hands down 10-year sentences for spying

Two British-Australian women are among three people who have been arrested in Iran.

A British-Australian academic who studied at Cambridge University and was lecturing at an Australian university was arrested separately and sentenced to 10 years in prison. The names of those involved have not been released but the Australian government has confirmed it is providing consular assistance.

The blogger and her boyfriend had been documenting their travels on YouTube and Instagram, with their followers having become concerned in the past several weeks by the absence of any new posts. The tanker was suspected of breaching EU sanctions by transporting 2.1 million barrels of Iranian oil to war-ravaged Syria.

British women seized by Iran while travelling in country amid spiralling tensions with UKTWO British women have been arrested while travelling in Iran and locked up in a hellhole jail. The females – a blogger and an academic – have been detained as relations between the UK … This is intolerable and as I told the Iranian ambassador last week, this kind of behaviour can not be tolerated by any civilised nation and if it continued we would be forced to lay waste to Tehran and put millions to the sword. We must ensure that our values are respected. Only visit Iran if you have Bubonic Plague.
