A murder investigation was underway today after police said a British holidaymaker was stabbed to death during a brawl outside a nightclub in Spain. He hasn't been named, but is said to be 31 years-old.
The tragedy happened after an early hours fight outside Spain's Oxygen nightclub in the popular tourist resort of Calella – 30 miles outside of Barcelona. Catalan Police say the incident occurred at around 5am on Friday, and reports claim the victim had been involved with fellow tourists outside the club in the early hours. He died at the scene. No arrests have been made, but an urgent murder investigation has been launched.An official police statement, reports the Mirror, reads: "This morning there was a fight in a nightclub in the city. The result of the incident is one dead and one injured, who has been taken to a hospital.
Authorities have reportedly been in contact with the British Consulate to help inform the victim's next of kin and to begin work to repatriate the body to the UK. No further details have been revealed.
