The last time we spoke to former Dancing On Ice professional skater Brianne Delcourt and former footballer Kevin Kilbane, the couple were recovering from a stressful few weeks after Brianne had haemorrhaged in the early stages of her third pregnancy.
Chatting to us from their home in Canada, Brianne – who is also mum to five-year-old Gracie and 15-month-old Olivia – tells us that adjusting to a new addition has been hard. The condition meant that Brianne had to watch what she was eating. “I actually lost a bit of weight at the end of my pregnancy, which isn’t always good,” she says. Fortunately, the diabetes has disappeared since she gave birth. “It was horrible but it all faded away, so thank goodness.”
“And then after an hour and 20 minutes, the doctor was like, ‘You’re going to feel a lot of pressure because we’ve got to get her out now.’ And then there was this pop. “There were a couple of complications that could have been a lot worse. I was very emotional because I was beside Bri the whole time throughout the surgery and you know what she’s going through.I could just see the uncomfortable faces she’s pulling and it’s just total admiration for her that I feel.”
"Either way it’s torturous having children, but going into this one, because I’d only just had a C-section with Olivia, it was still fresh in my mind. “And also, mentally, when you know you have another baby, you have no choice, you’ve just got to get up and go. Olivia has been running since she was about 10 months old so you just don’t have the time to sit down and feel sorry for yourself.”
Now she’s home from hospital and feeling well, Brianne is very philosophical about everything they went through. “I look at all my kids and just feel so blessed in so many ways,” she says. “We’d been pretty much settled on Emily Ava for more or less six months of the pregnancy and then after the ultrasound, when we got the little still shot, Bri said she was feeling Keavy a lot more. It was a joint decision but more so Bri’s. It’s a beautiful name and we’re delighted with it.”
And as they settle into their new home, another thing that’s going smoothly for Brianne is breastfeeding. She told us, “I was a bit worried because after she was taken off the tubes and everything else, she was given to Daddy and I just wanted to get to her so I could get her fed. But she latched right away and there have been no issues whatsoever.”
