Irish freight is being shipped directly to Europe to avoid Brexit bureaucracy.

RISE in freight volumes going from Ireland to FranceThe direct sea routes to France are slightly slower and more expensive than crossing the Irish Sea and then driving south through Wales and England to cross the Channel between Dover and Calais.

DFDS says the service, which runs six times a week and takes just under 24 hours, is almost always oversubscribed. An announcement of additional sailings is expected shortly. Overall, there are currently 36 sailings per week from Ireland to Northern France, up from 12 a year ago. And Rosslare's freight traffic with mainland Europe rose by a remarkable 446% in January, compared to 2020.About 160 new jobs have already been created at Rosslare by government agencies, shipping lines and the port authority itself, and extra business has been generated for local garages and cafes.

brilliant news!! 150,000 fewer diesel polluting vehicles throwing their piss on the hard shoulder boost to sea freight companies eases congestion on M4/M25 and its approaches reduces pinch-point pressures on Dover/Chunnel win, win, win, win!!

Now what can we do to close the loophole that allows Irish itinerant criminal gangs to operate with near impunity?

Good

Brexit: why BBC only post negative stories.

Brilliant, less freight on the roads = less traffic congestion. Thank you, Irish freight truckers👏👏👏👏

In a way it makes sense. Fewer lorries passing through Britain from Ireland, the drivers get a break and less bureaucracy.

Your daily reminder that BBC are still annoyed about brexit

Given I read an article years ago were a haulier when questioned about why he doesn’t use uk rail for long distance deliveries, said “I’d use a camel and a sledge if it was the cheapest way” this neither surprises me or concerns me

The Brexit Sunlit Uplands Are in Ireland And Amsterdam England got Kent and Warrington.

This is fantastic news! The irony of Green Party CarolineLucas lamenting this environmental gain all because Brexit is still living rent free in her head

If the goods are destined for mainland Europe rather than the U.K. , why is this an issue? I can see that we maybe losing income at the ports for docking etc, but apart from that, what else do we lose? There is the benefit of keeping heavyweight traffic off our roads.

Another load of bollocks from the BBC. Irish freight comes of the Ferry drives down and across the border without stopping even to fill up. So it stopped pollution and more wear and tear on NI roads. So no story from the BBC, just distorted propaganda from the we love EU/BBC

pritipatel starve the Irish eh! Oops!

Wonder if Scots will sail direct after independence?

我忘了银行的电话了,帮帮我,拜托了,看在我帮助过你们的份上,尽管你们和他们的关系不好。帮我联系一下银行 I forgot the phone number of the bank. Help me, please, because I helped you, although your relationship with them is not good。Help me contact the bank

Keeping the roads less congested is not a problem.

So..

let em do it, we should ban eu/irish trade from our roads, we need to increase their costs cos hopefully 1 of these days itll be the straw that breaks the eus back imo.

Welsh voted leave. The whole purpose of SM & CU is to remove red tape, hassle etc. Welsh voted for red tape, hassle etc.

Because on a free border migrants are not checked (we don't check for them either) but possible some will be detected. But more likely they are exporting to UK then importing back into EU. Which make no sense; doesn't make sense of the border either.

Why Irish freight trade is avoiding Britain: Brexit.

Another Brexit win, less heavy traffic clogging up the road network whilst contributing nothing to the upkeep, keep up the good work
